New Spilled Coins (Dead Leaves) Test Chart “Dead Leaves” test charts are used to measure a camera’s ability to reproduce fine texture detail, which can be reduced by software noise reduction. Imatest’s new Spilled Coins chart, which is available in three sizes and in color as well as black and white, has several advantages over existing Dead Leaves charts. Most importantly it is almost perfectly scale-invariant, and hence produces more reliable and consistent results. Scale-invariance means that the pattern statistics are independent of magnification, i.e., do not vary with camera-to-target distance or pixel size.
