Fairing
The design of a vessel in Orca3D begins with the hull
model. Hull design is a unique combination of artistic expression and
engineering analysis, combining to form a creative process to meet the
aesthetic and performance requirements of the vessel.
The software that you use to transform the hull from an
idea to a 3D computer model should enrich the creative process, with guidance
provided by precise and detailed analyses. With Orca3D, you have complete
freedom to create any type of hull, beginning with a concept and carrying
through to final fairing, while ensuring that the hull meets your target
hydrostatic properties.
Hydrostatics & Stability
The process of hull design is more than simply
aesthetics; the hull must meet various other requirements, including overall
dimensions, displacement, center of buoyancy, and stability. Therefore, the
process of hull design and the analysis of hydrostatics and stability must be
closely linked. In Orca3D, the model for these tasks is one and the same; the
hull is designed using one or more NURBS surfaces, and these same surfaces
are used in the calculation of the hydrostatics and stability properties. In
fact, they are so closely linked, that the hydrostatics can be updated in
real time, as the hull surface is modified.
Requirements
Orca3D is a plug-in for Rhino. You must have Rhino
installed prior to installing Orca3D. If you do not, please download Rhino
from the Rhino web site and install it before installing Orca3D.

- Rhino Version 6 or 7 (latest Service Release)
- Orca3D Version 2 will not run with Rhino 4 or Rhino 5 (please
contact us if you use Rhino 4 or 5)

- Operating Systems tested: Windows 7, 8.1, 10
- All other Windows operating systems have not been tested but may
work
- Mac: The Intel Mac with Boot Camp has not been tested but may work
- Operating System Pre-Requisites: (Note – The Orca3D installation will
attempt to install any not already on your computer)
- Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 and 4.5.2
- Microsoft Report Viewer Redistributable 2010
- Microsoft Visual C++ 2014 Runtime Libraries
- The Offset Table and the CFD Report functions require Microsoft
Excel
- Valid license key (without this, Orca3D will operate as a 15-day
fully functional evaluation copy)
