Ornatrix is a commercial plugin for Autodesk Maya created, maintained, and distributed by Ephere Inc. . With it installed, Maya acquires new functionality allowing user-friendly creation, modeling, management, animation, and rendering of computer generated hair, fur, feathers, and other scattered primitives such as foliage.
A complete hair, fur, and feather solution is now on Maya!
Non-destructive hair pipeline Artist-friendly grooming tools Fits Maya like a glove Rich multi-purpose toolset Render farm points and discounts

Minimum System Requirements
Ornatrix Maya is designed to work on a variety of Maya versions and all operating systems where Maya is supported. However, there exist a minimum requirements where Ornatrix Maya is supported.
Windows Mac Linux CentOS 6 or 7, corresponding to Maya's requirements. Maya 2018 or newer. Starting with Ornatrix 4.1.4, a Linux distribution from the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 family is required. Support for the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 family has been discontinued.
Known Issues and Limitations - Dynamics Node
The Dynamics operator has been deprecated and is not supported on macOS. Please use the Moov Hair Physics node as an alternative. - Maya 2020
Maya 2020 Update 1 is required, as the initial 2020 release contains a bug that affects Ornatrix. - Maya 2025
Starting on Maya 2025, the Expression Editor widget is no longer included. The plain text Expression Editor is still available for adding and editing SeExpr scripts.
Viewport Hair Display Limitations on Mac OS The version of OpenGL included with macOS lacks support for compute shaders and other essential features required by Ornatrix for optimal viewport hair display. Due to this limitation, the following Ornatrix features are not available when using macOS:
- GPU Hair Display
The ability to leverage GPU for hair display in the viewport. - Camera-facing Hair
Hair strands dynamically aligning with the camera view. - Camera-facing Normals
Strand normals dynamically aligning with the camera view. - Display Strand Selection
Displaying strand selection directly on the Hair Shape node. This does not apply to Edit Guides. - Display Strand Groups
Displaying of strand groups colors directly on the Hair Shape node when Edit Guides is not selected. - Overlay Opacity and Overlay Blend Mode
Since none of the Overlay features are supported, these options will not have any effect. - Display Wireframe when selected
Allows you to disable the selection highlight of the hair in the viewport. - Display Strand Channel Overlay
Allows you to display the values of the selected strand channel. - Maya LT
Maya LT does not support third party plugins. You can find more information in Maya LT Documentation*
